It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Stephen Clarke on Saturday 13th June following his battle against cancer.
Stephen worked with the HPower team on both Royal Windsor Horse Show and London International Horse Show. At London he was President of the Ground Jury from the inception of the FEI World Cup™ Dressage Competition in 2004 up until 2024. He also participated in many of the Dressage Masterclasses held at the Show including the last one in the 2025 Show, during the masterclasses, the audience was always captivated by his wit, charm and knowledge.
He was also a great support to Royal Windsor, with one of the highlights of his time being when he was President of the Ground Jury for the Alltech FEI European Jumping and Dressage Championships held in August 2009. The pinnacle of his career was as President of the Ground Jury at the London 2012 Olympic Games – his home turf.
Stephen was a great supporter of the Shows, encouraging the development of the sport, its audience and its participants. He was prepared to make difficult decisions but was also often moved by the competition. At the London and Windsor shows he was witness to two of the outstanding stars of dressage of recent years – Totilas and Valegro – and would express his wonder at what he had seen in the arena; he never tired of the sport.
We will miss his face around the shows, his smile could light up a room and his advice was second to none. Our thoughts are with his partner of many years, Julian Sebire.
