Perfecting Lines: Simon Grieve and Meg Elphick’s London Eventing Masterclass

Five-star event rider Simon Grieve and popular equestrian content creator and grassroots competitor Meg Elphick are joining forces for a brand-new ridden Masterclass at London International Horse Show this December.

Taking place on Saturday 19 December in the Thomas Family London Arena, the engaging and educational session will see the pair share their expertise, experiences and practical training techniques; with Simon riding one of his seasoned event horses in contrast to Meg on one of her up and coming event horses.

Following a successful season and an impressive top 20 finish at the recent CCI5* Defender Burghley Horse Trials, event rider Simon, who coaches Meg, will partner one of his top competition horses in the Arena. The pair will be on hand to show Meg and her horse the ropes, illustrating the adaptations for training horses at differing levels. The Masterclass will offer a unique behind-the-scenes look at the process of producing the next generation of eventers, as Simon guides horse and rider through new challenges and key developmental milestones.

Simon Grieve said: “I love focusing on the technical details of Eventing which in turn builds confidence and produces great results. Meg and I always have a lot of fun when we are together so expect lots of banter as well as plenty of laughs during the session – which of course will be educational too!”

Focusing on accuracy, riding correct lines and introducing young horses to technical questions such as skinnies and corners, the session will explore the patience, consistency and decision-making required to build confidence and understanding from the very beginning.

Meg Elphick said: “I’ve known Simon for a long time and his knowledge is second to none. He is a brilliant teacher. I always look forward to our lessons and I can’t wait to have one in the Thomas Family London Arena at the London International Horse Show and see how my horse performs in front of the London crowd.”

Through practical demonstrations, expert insights and honest discussion, audiences will gain a fascinating perspective on the journey from inexperienced youngster to confident cross-country partner, while picking up valuable training tips they can apply to their own horses at home.

Simon Brooks-Ward, Event Director, London International Horse Show said: “We are putting on some really exceptional masterclasses this year, with more still to be announced. Simon and Meg are both great personalities with an excellent working relationship and I know that will make for a thoroughly entertaining and informative Masterclass for London fans to enjoy.”

Other Masterclasses already announced include Richard Davison’s Dressage on Thursday 17 December, Dickie Waygood’s Eventing with Ros Canter and Gemma Stevens on Friday 18 December, Dog Agility with Anthony Clarke on Saturday 20 December and Pippa’s Pony Club Rally with Pippa Funnell on Sunday 21 December.

London International Horse Show takes place at Excel London from 17-21 December 2026, bringing together international Show Jumping, Dressage and Driving alongside Royal Kennel Club Dog Agility, shopping, festive entertainment and family attractions.
