Georgia Impresses in the Young Riders’ Highlight

Young rider Georgia Tame rode two immaculate rounds to head the qualifier for the Voltaire Design Under 25 British Championships in which the top 10 riders compete in a £13,000 final on Sunday evening at Olympia. “Everyone wants to win this,” said Georgia, 22, of the prestigious contest that helped launch former world number one Scott Brash on his path to fame.

She rode with admirable tact on Quintella, a mare that’s talented but clearly not the easiest to handle. “She certainly has her own way of going; you can’t argue with her.” Georgia took over the ride from Shane Breen; she has ridden for the top Irish jumper for the past five years at his Hickstead base.

Only four of the field of 24 went through to the jump-off and Georgia had the satisfaction of beating her boyfriend, Oliver Fletcher riding Temple Rebus. He also pulled off a double clear, but was 3.16 seconds slower.

Charlie Jones, who is trained by his uncle, Nick Skelton, and Laura Kraut was third on Dexter and Harry Charles, who is competing in the 5* classes at Olympia, was fourth on Valkiry de Zance.
